Welcome to Cheekie Chronicles, detectives mom & dad! If you're just joining our merry band, let me catch you up. Previously, we solved the itchy mystery of eczema and learned how to identify its sneaky triggers that cause those troublesome flare-ups. Got it? Great!
In our last adventure, we navigated the perplexing pathways of eczema. But today, we have a new case on our hands.
Presenting: The Puzzling Case of Psoriasis - Where Itching Reigns Supreme!
Alright, detectives, grab your magnifying glasses and put on your thinking caps. We're about to dive into the mysterious world of Psoriasis, where clues are hidden in plain sight, and every itch has a story. This case is a bit trickier than our last one, so stay sharp and keep your eyes peeled.
Ready, set, let’s solve the mystery and tame the itch!
Clue No 1: Countess Infection Interference
Ever felt like you've been knocked out by a horse tranquillizer? Now, picture your little champ grappling with Streptococcal, (strep throat) an infection with a bacterium known as Streptococcus pyogenes, which is particularly linked to psoriasis – (cue the dramatic music!). It's not just tough; it's downright unpleasant for them. This bacteria spreads from person to person through the air or from touching skin or other surfaces contaminated by this bacteria.
So, let's keep your surroundings clean to steer clear of that drama, shall we?
Clue No 2: Master Injury Alert
Think a little scratch or sunburn is no biggie? Think again! Turns out, even the tiniest skin mishaps—cuts, bites, burns—can set off psoriasis patches like a surprise party for your skin. It's like your body's immune system has a quirky sense of humour, especially if you're genetically inclined. Who knew skin could be this sensitive to life's little bumps? Best to ask your family members to get to the bottom of this!
Clue No 3: Mistress Stress Mess
Let’s revisit Mistress Stress Mess from the Eczema Files for a sec. When your little one catches an infection or a skin boo-boo, it's like their stress-o-meter goes haywire. And guess what? Psoriasis can throw a flare-up party in response. So, handle those delicate darlings with care—extra cuddles and maybe a little bubble wrap won't hurt! ;-)
Other Psoriasis Skin triggers - from the Eczema Files
Now we’ve come to the other Psoriasis skin trigger list that share some similarities to Eczema. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, let me introduce these colourful characters, briefly.
Lady Allergies: Watch out! Foods, allergens such as dust or pollen, even fabrics—psoriasis doesn't play nice with triggers like these.
Inspector Digestive Dilemmas: Psoriasis detectives, listen up! For some kids, dairy, gluten, or tangy fruits can be flare-up culprits. So be sure to avoid these items. Look for clues such as slight changes on the skin and discomfort your child may feel after consuming certain foods.Keep track with a food diary to crack the case!
Doctor Chemical Catastrophe: Watch out for skin's kryptonite: harsh chemicals in soaps, detergents, and wool can stir up psoriasis trouble!
Lord Cold Weather: When chilly winds blow and indoor heat dries, psoriasis flare-ups rise! Keep cosy with these weather-wise tips.
Their Advice...
Moisturize Regularly: Apply moisturizers immediately after bathing while the skin is still damp to lock in moisture. Use a thick, emollient-rich moisturizer that is fragrance-free and gentle on sensitive skin. Remember to make this a routine, mum’s and dad’s!
Humidify Indoor Air: Use a humidifier in your child's bedroom and other frequently used areas to add moisture to the air. This helps counteract the drying effects of indoor heating during cold weather.
Avoid Hot Baths and Showers: This one is a big NO, NO! Hot water can strip the skin of natural oils, leading to dryness and exacerbating psoriasis symptoms. Did you know that hot water can also make the skin itchier? Opt for lukewarm water instead and limit bath or shower time to about 10 minutes.
Protect Skin from Cold and Wind: When heading outdoors in chilly weather, bundle up your child to shield their sensitive skin from biting winds. Think cosy scarves, snug gloves, and warm hats. And guess what? Cheekie Shop Hypoallergenic Sleepwear is perfect for this too! We got you covered with our thermal regulated sleepwear, that ensures your little one stays comfy and warm, even when it's cold outside. Don’t forget to throw in a hoodie or jacket for extra safety and snugness!
Stay Hydrated: Encourage your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day to maintain skin hydration from within.
